I recently picked up an amazing value set of from Bourjois at Shoppers Drug Mart which was on markdown post-Christmas. Score! Included in the set, and one of the things I was most excited about, was their Volume 1 seconde mascara. Well, after a few recent mascara let-downs, I am happy to say that this is a winner!
This mascara features a really sturdy (the nice way of saying quite hard) plastic brush, and it’s supposed to be made up of both spherical and straight bristles for clump-free volume. If I had to describe this mascara in one word, it would be clump-free. I find that in general, plastic combs do a better job at really separating lashes, and this is no exception. No matter how many coats you pile on, the wand continues to separate and define your lashes and there are no clumps in sight. Personally, I don’t mind a little bit of clump, but I’m still quite happy with these results!
Boujois’ Volume 1 Seconde Mascara is a really great choice if your ideal lash look is really long, separated lashes. The formula holds a curl really well and definitely lengthens my lashes. It also has great staying-power; it doesn’t droop throughout the day or flake off. On the spiky scale, I’d say it’s a medium – your lashes aren’t super soft (which I hate), but aren’t really hard either. It’s very comfortable to wear.
Since my personal holy-grail mascara look is really full, thick, voluminous lashes, this isn’t my favourite mascara, but I am really impressed with the great results you get from a pretty generic-seeming plastic wand. I’ve been using this every day for over a week and I’ve been quite happy with my lashes! I especially like this mascara paired with a really simple eye look, like a wash of shimmery pink and some liquid liner – it really makes your lashes stand out. Bonus: you can also re-apply this on top of already-dry mascara, like at the end of the work day, and it builds really nicely on top of itself. Overall, I like!
My final verdict:
- Formula: 8/10
- Brush: 7/10
- Overall look: 8/10
