what i’ve been loving in april

Long time no blog! hello there! I’ve been spending April trying some new beauty thangs and desperately wishing for spring to arrive. And at last it has! I even got a bit of sun on my shoulders during my run today. Hooray!

My April beauty faves are a good combination of new finds and some rediscoveries from the depths of my beauty drawers.April faves

my march faves

Hello there! I’m a bit late with these favourites but better late than never. I’ll be  honest, nothing had me feeling crazy excited this past month.  But, a makeup lover always has makeup to love, and here’s what I’ve been reaching for the most in March. March monthly faves

February faves

At the beginning of this month, I did something kinda bad. Good for my makeup collection, but bad for my wallet and my sense of self-control. I basically went to Target like a MAD WOMAN and spent more money on makeup in 20 minutes flat than I ever have before, without having carefully considered all the options, read reviews, made a wish list, etc etc. Now thankfully after all that, I don’t regret any of those purchases! How rare is that? So my favourites this month are largely from that mad dash shop in Target and therefore heavily feature Pixi! It’s not intentional – it’s just that truly, these are the products I’ve been loving this month and a majority of them just happen to be from the same brand.February 2015 beauty favourites

december favourites

I can’t believe I’m writing my favourites for the month of December already – it’s now 2015! Here’s hoping 2015 is a great year for everyone!

This month’s favourites included some new finds as well as some old faithfuls.December favourites

From left to right:

Yves Rocher Pear Caramel Body Lotion – I’m not usually one for overly scented body lotions because I tend to only apply them only at night, as I hate waiting for them to dry before putting on my clothes. But this smells so good; it’s slightly fruity but definitely on the sophisticated side of the fruit spectrum. It also absorbs extremely quickly, leaving a light veil of scent. This is their Christmas scent this year, so I’m fairly sure it won’t be around for much longer. Stock up if you can!

NYX Matte Lipstick in Bloody Mary – This was a new purchase this month from Target (I’m obsessed with the beauty section at Target…). This is without a doubt the most long-lasting lipstick I’ve ever worn. I’ve worn this to work a few days, and it lasted through my morning smoothie, a bottle of water, AND my lunch. I was honestly shocked. The formula is quite smooth and pretty comfortable as well, for a matte lipstick. I’ve already picked this up in a pink shade and am definitely going to get more. Expect a full review soon!

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation – an old favourite that I re-discovered this month. I tend to gravitate towards medium or full coverage foundations for work days, and this provides really great coverage while still looking natural and not feeling heavy or thick on the skin. Love this.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads – Holy grail status daily exfoliating pads; I’d used these months ago and ran out during November so was really happy to start using them again this month. The pads are soaked in lactic and glycolic acid and I use them morning and night to exfoliate. They’re super gentle, but still really effective.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Jungle Gem – this is a really nice dark green/bluey shade that I’ve been wearing for over a week now – and I tend to change my nail polish every 3-4 days so you know I must love it. See the full review of this amazing nail polish here.

Thanks for reading and happy New Year to everyone!!

my november monthly favourites

This month’s roundup of favourites is short and sweet, primarily because even applying makeup over the past month was a huge struggle until about five days ago due to my right arm being in a sling! (I know, I know, enough with the sling talk!). The good news is that I am now sling-free – hooray! – and my makeup obsession is back in full swing.

My focus in November was on effective products that are ultra easy-to-use.

My favourites from November 2014From left we have:

Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant with pure Cocoa Butter: This rich body moisturizer is holy-grail status for me. It’s a really moisturizing, thick lotion that absorbs super quickly, hydrates, and smells amazing! I’ll definitely have one of these at my bedside table all winter long to keep the shin scales at bay.

Olay Fresh Effects {Bright on Schedule} Eye Awakening Cream: This is a fairly lightweight eye-cream with a metal roller ball dispenser. I bought this exclusively for the dispenser, because I love the cooling feeling of eye rollers in the morning.  Has this revolutionized by under-eyes? Who knows. But the lightweight formula absorbs fairly quickly and it feels so refreshing to apply in the mornings. I like!

Jamieson ProVitamina e: The least glamorous of products ever.  This is 100% pure vitamin e oil, and is more of a necessity than anything else for me right now. I have two scars on my knees and about 5 inches of scars on my chest/decollete from my surgeries, so I’m slathering this thick oil on in hopes that it will help them heal. Warning: this stuff is seriously thick and gloopy. DO NOT lay the bottle on its side, no matter how tightly you’ve closed the cap, because it will seep out everywhere. I learned the hard way.

Benefit Some Kind-a-Gorgeous: I found this in my foundation drawer while searching for something to even out my skin tone that required little to no blending (i.e. that I could slap on with my left hand). This is a cream-to-powder “foundation faker” with a sheer, lightweight coverage. It feels quite silicone-y and slippery, meaning it’s extremely easy to blend into your skin, and leaves a sheer wash of colour, just enough to even things out.

What are you loving these days?

september favourites

Time for a round-up of all the beauty bits and bobs I’ve been loving during the month of September!

September favourites

Sally Hansen Nail Rehab:  For those rare occasions when I haven’t had a chance to do my nails but can’t fathom the idea of going naked-nailed, this is a pink-toned translucent nail fortifier and strengthener. Two coats give a really pretty, very pale pink wash of colour. Makes me feel like I’m being nice to my nails and giving them some TLC.

Clinique Superbalance Makeup: This is an old favourite, and this month I purchased my second bottle. I use the shade 04 Cream Chamois. I consider this foundation a trusty reliable performer – decent coverage, great shades, well-priced, natural finish (not too matte, not too glowy). I tend to switch up my foundations every few days, but whenever this enters rotation it sticks around for a while.  I wore this for a really good chunk of September!

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser – really great, luxe cleanser. Review coming soon!

Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde:  As I’ve previously raved, this stuff fakes amazing eyebrows for those of us who weren’t blessed with them. Love!

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner – I wear black liquid liner almost every day, and I’ve tried many. This one is hands-down my fave. My last tube was empty and I tested a few replacements, but so far nothing compares.  Amazing liquidy black formula, really pointy felt nib applicator, and insanely long-lasting. Since repurchasing this about a month ago I haven’t even bothered to try any of my others. They just can’t measure up.

Nars And God Created the Woman Eye Kit – You can never have enough neutral eyeshadows and palettes. This comes with 6 neutral shades, two matte and four sparkly. While it could never measure up to my Naked palettes (can anything?), I’ve been using this tons this month and the shades are really pretty and quite long-wearing. With a good mix of light, medium and dark shades there are lots of different looks you can achieve. The eye kit also comes with a eyeshadow brush and the pro-prime smudge proof eyeshadow base.

What were you loving this past month?  Any recommendations for my beauty shopping list?
