love me my shiny taupes

I feel like a broken record by raving about shimmery taupe shades lately, but what can I say, I am obsessed!  I’ve been wearing this makeup look almost every day for the past few weeks, and I just love it.  It’s super simple and quick to do in the mornings, and because I use a cream product, lasts all day. This has definitely been my go-to winter look!taupe makeup

awards, awards!

Happy spring! …. almost. It’s coming!

I’m so honoured and pleased to have been nominated by some awesome fellow bloggers for a few blog awards in the last little while. I’m going to combine them all here to keep it all neat and tidy. These awards all require nominating other bloggers but since I’ve seen these awards really making the rounds in the blogosphere lately, I’m going to skip out on nominating others.

Versatile Blogger Awards

First up I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Awards by the lovely Amy from The Makeup Case17. Amy, I’m sorry it took so long to re-post this!  This award requires that I post 7 facts about myself – so see below!

Beautiful Blogger Award

Next, TheWorldofCos nominated me for the Beautiful Blogger Award. This award requires that you add a little write-up about the bloggers you nominate and I was so touched by what she said about me!  Her blog is awesome for very frequent nail polish and face mask reviews, so check her out!

Liebster Awards

And last, Chanelle nominated me for the Liebster Award. As part of this award, Chanelle listed seven questions for all the nominees to answer.  I’ve decided that my answers will count as the facts about myself for the Versatile Blogger Award – I’m cheating a bit!

 Chanelle’s Questions For Me:

1. What’s your favourite candle scent? I love the warm scents that come out at Christmas. Right now my fave is Cranberry Woods from Bath and Body Works

2. Do you collect anything? Does makeup count? 😉

3. Who would you want to play you in a movie? The first name that popped into my mind was Reese Witherspoon so let’s go with her

4. If you won the lottery what would be the first thing you would buy? A house

5. What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? Chocolate. I am addicted to sugar, unfortunately

6. Favourite food? Pizza all the way

7. Who’s your biggest inspiration and why? I’m inspired by successful women who followed their passion to get where they are

8. Tea or coffee? I love both, but tea

9. Favourite item of makeup? mascara, obviously!

10. Is blogging anything like you imagined? Great question. I really love the community aspect of it, which I wasn’t expecting. But truthfully I find it tough to find time and inspiration to post frequently – I’m so impressed by bloggers who post daily or multiple times a week! I’m trying to build up frequency but at the same time, I don’t want to write about things I don’t care about, so this is what works for me right now!

Thanks SO much to all these lovely ladies for the nominations – be sure to check out their blogs, too!

mascara mondays: rimmel wonder’lash with argan oil

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a mascara monday! I haven’t been all too impressed with the mascaras I’ve tried out recently, but I’m definitely extremely picky. I am a huge fan of Rimmel mascara (remember the scandaleyes retro glam?) so I had high hopes for their newest offering, the Wonder’Lash Mascara with Argan Oil. Unfortunately, this one wasn’t a win for me.

stepping outside of my makeup comfort zone

What I love about makeup is that it offers endless possibilities – of colours, styles, looks. It’s an expression of creativity and I always love to try new things, but I’ve definitely got a “makeup comfort zone” that I don’t stray too far from. Love me some glowy skin, smokey eyes with shades of browns, taupes, golds, and purples, and an array of lip shades in various tones of pinks and reds. So in the spirit of trying new things and pushing myself, I’ve been thinking about some new things I’d like to try to this year.  Continue reading

February faves

At the beginning of this month, I did something kinda bad. Good for my makeup collection, but bad for my wallet and my sense of self-control. I basically went to Target like a MAD WOMAN and spent more money on makeup in 20 minutes flat than I ever have before, without having carefully considered all the options, read reviews, made a wish list, etc etc. Now thankfully after all that, I don’t regret any of those purchases! How rare is that? So my favourites this month are largely from that mad dash shop in Target and therefore heavily feature Pixi! It’s not intentional – it’s just that truly, these are the products I’ve been loving this month and a majority of them just happen to be from the same brand.February 2015 beauty favourites

matte lips that are comfortable, too?!

I had a new lipstick discovery back in December and my love for them is still going strong. As I briefly raved in my December faves, the NYX Matte lipsticks are seriously, seriously amazing. Plus, since Target is one of the few places that stocks NYX and we are losing Target any day now in Canada, it’s time for me to really spread the love so that my Canadian ladies can get in on the action! NYX Matte Lipstick Continue reading

looking good after 5pm

Situation: you’ve got somewhere to go after a full work or school day. Concern: you want to look as fresh and beautiful as you did when you left the house that morning.   Issue 1: you either aren’t going home first, or will only have 5 minutes before you have to leave again.  Issue 2: you unfortunately look like you’ve been at work/school for at least 8 hours. Uh oh.

This happens to me all. the. time. No matter what fabulous products I used that morning, I definitely don’t look as good post-5PM as I did at 7:30AM, all bright and fresh-faced and glowy with perfect eyeliner. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to look that way again for my post-work activities! Lucky for you and for me (mostly for me), I’ve narrowed down the few, crucial beauty steps to take to refresh, re-set and only slightly re-do your makeup to keep your face going into the evenings and beyond!  You only need a few products so you can easily pack these essentials in a small makeup bag to throw in your purse to touch up on-the-go. DSC_0011
