sophisticated sparkly eyes

I am obsessed with constantly acquiring new makeup. There will never be a point in my life when I feel that I have “enough”. That’s not even a thing! And one of the things that gets me most excited is trying new product launches. Julep recently launched a new line of eyeshadows in their December Maven bags called Orbital eyeshadows, and I just couldn’t narrow down my selection to one shade so I got two! I am SO glad I did though, because these are love at first swatch!

These eyeshadows almost look like a pressed pigment – they are extremely shimmery and have some glitter as well. Now usually if someone were to describe an eyeshadow as “extremely shimmery with glitter”, I would run in the opposite direction! It sounds like those cheap eyeshadows I used to have when I was like, 13. Not pretty. But these are nothing like that. The shimmer and glitter are both really fine so there’s definitely no chunkiness, and as a result, also surprisingly little, if any, fallout of the glitter onto your cheeks. According to Julep, these are designed to increase intensity with each layer, and I do find that the first layer has almost no pigmentation; only the shimmer seems to pick up. After one or two more layers though, the colour really builds up, leaving you with a grown-up shimmery makeup look.

I picked up the shades Earthshine, a cool-toned brown, and Supernova, a deep purple. A word of caution: I don’t find the colour descriptions on the Julep website accurate at all. They describe Supernova as “charcoal with electric orchid pearlescence”. Um, hell, mine has absolutely no charcoal tones at all, and in fact it actually has brown undertones. So rely on the swatches, not the shade descriptions!

The packaging is quite nice; they come in rather large black plastic compact and the lid reveals a pretty big mirror which is a huge plus. The compact size definitely could have been smaller, as they are kind of bulky,  but I’m just picky.

Overall, I think these are a really unique product and I highly recommend them! I don’t have any comparable eyeshadows in terms of intense sophisticated shimmer and glitter, so they’re definitely a unique addition to my eyeshadow collection that is just perfect for this festive time of year.
